Music & Wine at Old Quail Run Farm

A good song can make you laugh, cry (happy or sad) tears, heal heartache, or pour salt in the wound. A good country song…well, it can make you feel all of the above in just one chorus, right? There’s something magical about real country.

As a 20-something singer from Arkansas, I had stars in my eyes for Nashville. I idolized the musicians who at that time were not only making a name for themselves, but bringing the soul of country music into the spotlight. Lee Roy Parnell was always at the top of that list. His combination of lyrics and slide guitar mastery created soul penetrating songs. I could (still can) sing every word.

Fast forward to today and my passions have shifted. Currently, design, traveling and wine are what I’m dreaming about. Last year, my trip to Lodi, California wine country sparked an even deeper interest in the delicacies of fine wine. That experience forged new friendships with dedicated farmers and winemakers. Not unlike musicians who use notes to create music, I am in awe of the artistry used to turn a simple vine into a bottle of complex and varied flavors.

It was the beautiful colliding of these two worlds, music and wine, that created our first Dinner & Concert of the year at Old Quail Run Farm. To host Lee Roy Parnell and the top winemakers from Lodi California in my back yard was surreal. The evening was made complete by the fine folk that make up our OQRF community.

Our Meet & Greet Cocktail hour guests started in the barn, and then moved to the backyard patio as other guests were arriving, to enjoy sample pours together before taking our dinner seats in the tent.

A comment we overheard from a guest was, “This is like that event we went to in McKinney……but on steroids.” Beyond flattered!

But on deeper reflection, we are not trying to compete with Dallas, Fort Worth or even McKinney. We are doing something all on our own, and at the heart of it is a “realness” that you’re just not going to find in the bigger cities. It’s the reason why you’ll get a greeting hug from me (whether we know each or not) and why you’ll shoot the breeze with a Grammy Award winning artist in our barn.

“A big time was had at Old Quail Run Farm in Sherman, TX this past weekend. Thanks so much to everyone our there for having us! We hope to come back again sometime soon. Folks, if you're looking for a wonderful evening of amazing food, wine and entertainment in a unique setting, put this stop on your wish list!” -Lee Roy Parnell
